If you're a parent of a teen, chances are you have either said this or wanted to say this at one time or another. Even as adults we don't always make the best decisions, but it is even harder for teens. Their brains are still developing and will be for many years to come. That means they haven't refined their decision-making skills. Pair that fact with a teen's impulsivity and lack of experience and you can begin to understand why teens don't always think critically.

This can be frustrating for parents, especially because you know how smart and capable your teen is. Don't forget, it is frustrating for your teen too. We all learn from our mistakes; it is a part of knowing how to make good decisions in the future. Your teen is doing just that right now, experiencing life and the results of their mistakes. However, it's important to remember that they are making some really great decisions too!
